As friends and family of the late Keroche heiress Tecra Muigai grapple with her sudden demise, private detective Jane Wawira Mugo has taken to social media to reminisce her last conversation with the deceased.

In her moving tribute, Mugo stated that she was speechless as she recalled a conversation she had with the late Tecra during Keroche CEO Tabitha Karanja’s birthday.

“I remember when you asked me during your mother’s birthday party: Detective how do you survive in this male-dominated job? (I responded; women of steel will always wake up strong no matter what is thrown their way) I advised you to remain focused, courageous, prayerful, strong and aggressive. What men can do women can do better,” she wrote.

Describing Tecra as a loving, dedicated and passionate individual, she noted that the deceased was a go-getter - qualities that saw her rise through the ranks to be the Director Strategy and Innovative at Keroche Breweries.

“The day God called you home my sister, a longtime friend. A good heart has stopped beating, a good soul has ascended to heaven. It only feels like yesterday when we had our last conversation. I’m speechless,” she said. “You leave behind a mark in the hearts of many. I’m honoured and blessed to have known you. Your life was truly a blessing to me. I will forever miss you. Rest in eternal peace dear.”

In her condolence to the Keroche family, the detective stated: “My heartfelt condolences to the family of Joseph Karanja and CEO Tabitha Karanja, friends, and Keroche Breweries fraternity for the untimely demise of Tecra Karanja. It is also a great blow to Kenya’s manufacturing industry. I extend my deepest sympathies to your mother who has in the recent past had a tough time, (for reasons well known to everyone). It is my hope and prayer that the government considers settling the KRA matter out of court.”

Tecra, who led a private life, died on Saturday afternoon in Lamu; news received in shock by many including politicians as well as business leaders and Kenyans from all walks of life who took to social media with the hashtag #RIPTecraMuigai to condole with the family which has asked for privacy to mourn their loved one.

Police have since arrested a 50-year-old man identified as Omar Lali who is said to have been living with Tecra. The two, according to neighbours, lived as a couple.

“We have arrested Mr Omar, the man who lived with Tecra before her he reported her fall and subsequent death. However, the case is being handled by the DCI. We cannot say much about the matter because investigations are still in the formative stage,” said Moses Murithi, the Lamu County Police Commander.

Her family, in a statement, described the incident as tragic even as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations took over the probe.
