The family of the late Mercy Mokeira and former Miss Tourism Nyamira County are still waiting to receive the beauty queen’s benefits from the county government; almost two years since she died.
According to her father, Josephat Momanyi, “The county only made promises of helping the family secure all the benefits which my daughter was entitled to but it did not keep the promises,”
He alleges that Mokeira is owed Sh7 million for representing Nyamira in various activities in and out of the country.
However, he clarified that his daughter was not working as an employee of Nyamira County but her terms of service were provided for.
He further claims that, “For the past one year I have tried to follow up with the respective offices including trade and finance but I have not got any help. I followed up with the then trade chief officer who was also very close to my daughter but in vain.”

According to Momanyi, the county also promised to settle all medical bills of the former beauty queen and cater for all funeral expenses, but that did not happen.
“To my knowledge, my late daughter worked for the county government and I know she was doing some good work in representing and marketing our county well in various activities and projects. I urge the county government through the governor John Nyagarama, the First Lady Naomi Nyagarama and the concerned departments of trade and finance to help me get the benefits of my beloved daughter.”
Mokeira, who until her demise was also Miss Heritage Kenya, died while serving the county government in the department of trade and tourism as their major external relations link person.
Her sudden death, saddened the county’s leadership, who called her death a great loss to the county.
“This is a great loss to our county. We are saddened beyond words,” Jones Omwenga, a member of the County Executive in Nyamira said.
Acting Trade Executive Omwanza Muga, when contacted over Mokeira’s case denied knowledge of it but promised to follow it up with the family.
“Since the time I assumed the office less than a year ago, I have not come across any claim from the family of the late Miss Tourism regarding her benefits. However, it is a matter of concern that we are taking up once we access the complaints from the family,” Muga said.
