A Nairobi matatu conductor has been hailed by Kenyans across social media as a hero after returning a passenger’s Sh30,000.
Daniel Mwaura, who operates along the Gachie- City Centre route picked up the money on 20th April after the passenger forget his wallet in the matatu.
Speaking to Nairobi News, Mwaura stated that “my first thought was that the owner must be devastated so I informed my employer and deposited the wallet at the office but with only Sh300, telling them to notify me should anyone come to claim it.”
A day after taking the wallet to the office, he was informed that the owner had come to pick it up.
Mwaura insisted on meeting the alleged owner to verify whether he matched the photo on the ID card he found inside the wallet.
“I asked him what else was in his wallet and when he gave me the exact amount as Sh30, 000, I surrendered the money” stated Mwaura.
He came to learn that the money was meant to settle the hospital bill for the passenger’s sick child.
“He asked me what he could give me in return but I told him to first deal with his sick child and we shall meet later,” Mwaura stated.
