  • Kenyan Djs and entertainers up in arms
  • This is over the spiking arrests, blackmail and intimidation
  • They claim they are being harassed by officials alleged to be operating under NEMA

A recent spike in Dj arrests is causing a stir as entertainers come together urging kanjo and those involved to stop arresting Djs who are trying to put food on their table.

This past weekend, several clubs were raided by these men and women who claim to be operating under NEMA.

But entertainers are not taking this sitting down this time round. A viral post by Deejay Bonez has been circulating as he urges Nairobi county governor to take action against these swindlers arresting Djs.

’THIS NEEDS TO STOP!!! Every weekend, DJ’s from all over NAIROBI are arrested while trying to make a living and put food on their tables the way they best know how and for the next hour, they were driven around in the back of a city council pickup like Thugs and hooligans to various other pubs arresting other Djs.’’ The post read.

Under the cover of sound pollution, Bonez revealed that instead of club owners facing the ‘law,’ it is the Djs who face the brunt and end up being blackmailed and forced to pay huge bribes to be set free.

‘’The team arresting operate under NEMA, (a claim which NEMA officials heavily deny) and that they were making arrests for sound pollution in the clubs. However, they leave the club owners and arrest the vulnerable young Djs. The Djs are then blackmailed and extorted for amounts ranging between 30k-200k, failure to which, they will end up sleeping in a cold hard cell for a few days with nothing booked in the OB. The good club owners will help get you out. The bad ones will switch off their phones. The operation is always led by the same individual who goes by the name, Mbaya. We are now appealing to @sonko @sakaja @ (everyone else) to help this resolve this situation by sitting with our representative.’’ The Dj posted.

Currently trending under the hash tag ‘Stop Arresting the Djs,’ celebrities including Sauti Sol have jumped onto the bandwagon appealing for this unfair treatment of entertainers to stop.

‘’Urging all artists and fans alike to help speak up against the recent wave of DJ arrests. #StopArrestingtheDJs.’’ The group posted yesterday.
