A cartel behind the theft of drugs from public health facilities in the county has been exposed. This follows the arrest of an intern student attached to Murang'a District Hospital's pharmacy department, who was found in possession of a package containing drugs worth Sh37,800.

The student had just picked the package from a chemist in Murang'a town moments after it was left there by an accomplice believed to have stolen the drugs from Maragua District Hospital.

County Health Chief Officer Joseph Mbai said the arrest follows a sensitisation exercise against the purchase of stolen drugs among chemist owners. Police said they were investigating the matter.
