A man in Nakuru has been ‘kicked out’ of his matrimonial home a few months after his wife received Sh800,000 to clear a bill at a private hospital in Nakuru town.

Jackson Odongo says his relationship with his wife of three years Olivia Njecho Osidiani hit the rocks after they raised the money to offset the hospital bill.

The Sh533,000 hospital bill arose after Olivia delivered at a private hospital, but Odongo could not raise money forcing the hospital to detain their baby.

The family received help from well-wishers including the county government of Nakuru after their story was carried in a local daily.

The county government paid Sh590,000 to the hospital. Another Sh200,000 was collected through a paybill number from well-wishers for baby Jeremy.

That was when more trouble hit the family. Odongo told The Nairobian that “after the money was raised, my wife began pushing for divorce and separation. She was abusing me every single minute. I was uncomfortable staying under the same roof, I moved to stay with my mother,” says Odongo, 40.

He adds that Olivia also wanted him to pay Sh8,000 rent, Sh6,000 for her upkeep, Sh7,000 school fees for her first born son she sired with a different man.

Later, Odongo moved to his mum’s place in Lanet to escape the abuse from his wife.

“I delayed to marry since I wanted to have a stable relationship and  live happily with my wife and raise our children in a proper manner. I am now a bachelor, I have no idea where to start from,” says Odongo whose wife is a customer care assistant in a water service company.

In her response, Olivia told The Nairobian; “I did not chase the man out of the house, I told him to pull up his socks, that means he meet needs of the family as the head,” she claims adding that they have never stayed together as a husband and a wife since they officially married in April 30, 2015. She claimed that Odongo lied during courtship that he was a military officer only for her to realise he was just a hustler after the baby was born.

Odongo, however, refutes her claims saying he stated in their marriage certificate he was a businessman. “I fell in love knowing Odongo was a military officer only to discover he was a labourer at a military camp,” she says.

After she was discharge from hospital, Olivia adds that Odongo became a nagger wanting to know how much was in the bill account.

Since he had not received any money, he accused his wife of secretly taking advantage of their son to become rich but, “I told the guy to go to hospital and confirm how much had been deposited.”  Olivia claims Odongo packed after she informed him no money had been withdrawn  from the paybill account.

The last time Odongo checked, the paybill account had Sh599, 917.
