Barack Obama in 2006

Her most memorable moment at KTN was in 2006 when Senator Barack Obama paid a courtesy call to the Standard Group. At the time, both print and electronic arms of the Standard were housed at I&M Building on Kenyatta Avenue.

"Since I was in charge of protocol and was senior news anchor at the Group coordinating this auspicious visit was in my docket," says Catherine adding that, "I bought him a charging young rhinoceros cast in Bronze, a painting and Maasai beadwork for his elegant wife and daughters."

This was a moment I will never forget, especially because Senator Barack Obama became, in his words, the first Kenyan American President of the United States of America!"

Catherine says the other memorable moment of her career was interviewing Mozambican President Chissano's successor, Armando Guebuza in 2004 at the Intercontinental Hotel Nairobi.

"After the interview, Guebuzo, who spoke impeccable English and polished Kiswahili, asked me to pray for him and Mozambique. I was rather taken aback at the strange but pertinent request. So I prayed!" she recalls.

In 2008, Catherine who was conferred the order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya by former President Mwai Kibaki in recognition of her contribution in the media industry.

"My thoughts were, how did they come up with this and why me? Then I thought and I said, my goodness somebody has been watching me all my career life," she told Citizen TV adding that, "So that's why I say, whatever you do today please know it will reflect tomorrow."
