I joined the University of Nairobi to study Sociology and Political Science in 2002. That was a year after solemnising my marriage in church.

My course was interesting, save for the fear of mathematics - statistics classes had a lot of calculations. It took the genius of Dr Lilian Owiti and Dr Ogada for me to evolve into a permanent madhafu cracker.

And then there was Prof Philip Nyinguro, the uniquely intelligent Political Science lecturer who gave me a lifetime inspiration. My busy employment schedule, coupled with classwork demands robbed me of any free time to hangout.

However, I stole whatever little time I had, especially before classes, to engage with young minds and try to catch up with their language and swag. Of course I found it difficult completing assignments, given I had to juggle between work and studies. Sometimes I had to stay up until 4am just to complete assignments.

Campus was cool, even though there were no Valentine hullabaloos like it is today. Chics never tried to out do each other in dressing. And being the traditional girl that I was, I never had a keen eye for fashion. In fact, I kept short hair then, even though I was married and aged 36.

I didn’t eat much in the mess since I loved cooking my own meals. I enjoyed every aspect of campus and when I look at the photos, I appreciate every work which earned me a Second Class Upper Division in 2005.
