Bungoma Woman Rep Catherine Wambilianga (pictured) and seven other people were seriously injured after a vehicle rammed into them during a campaign trail for the Kabuchai parliamentary by-elections.
Wambilianga was injured on Monday while at the home of Ford Kenya parliamentary aspirant Majimbo Kalasinga at Sikusi, Bungoma.
However, Bungoma County Police Commander Dr Musyoki Mutungi told the Standard on phone that he was unaware of the accident but is following up.
The lawmaker sustained a broken limb and was rushed to Bungoma Lifecare Hospital where she successfully underwent a surgery.
Fred Sanane, a communications officer in the Woman Rep office confirmed the incident saying Wambilianga was in stable condition and out of danger.
“It’s true that she was involved in an accident. She has two fractures on her leg,” said Sanane.
An eye-witness account revealed how the accident occurred.
“Wambilianga and seven others sustained injuries when a vehicle that was part of their entourage lost control and rammed into them as they were receiving Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula,” Mulongo, an eye witness told the Standard.
He added that the driver of the vehicle wanted to engage a reverse gear but accidentally engaged the forward gear, ramming into the crowd.
