Defending Kenyan volleyball champions General Service Unit (GSU) men's volleyball team defeated Espoire from Congo 3-0 to qualify for the African Clubs Championship quarterfinals set for Friday in Tunis, Tunisia.
GSU humbled the Congolese side 25-11, 25-14 and 25-12 in straight sets to finish second in Pool D behind Zamalek from Egypt.
The Kenyan side qualifies for the knock out stages despite starting the competition on the wrong foot. GSU had on Sunday fell to five-time champions Zamalek 3-0 before bouncing back to winning ways on Monday by seeing off Nigeria Customs 3-1.
Espoire had on Sunday surrendered a one-set lead to go down to Nigeria Customs 3-1(28-26,16-25,25-21,25-28) before they continued with their poor run Monday in the hands of Zamalek losing 3-0 (25-21,25-22,25-14).
The Kenyan champions will now face Esperance of Tunisia in one of the quarterfinal matches set to tip-off on Friday
