Top rally drivers Carl “Flash” Tundo and Baldev Chager are among those expected to fight for the bragging rights at the KCB Meru Rally, slated for November 9.
Others include Onkar Rai, Manvir Baryan and Eric Bengi who have confirmed their participation in the rally, which will have 11 competitive stages.
Speaking when Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and his deputy Titus Ntuchiu unveiled the event on Thursday, Clerk of the Course Hellen Shiri Kagendo said for safety reasons, spectators will not be allowed along the rally route, but will get opportunity to see the cars at designated viewing points.
To give spectators enough time to check the adrenaline-charged action as the rally aces zoom past, the drivers will go through the competitive sections thrice.
Kagendo, a former rally driver said Meru County will be represented in the rally by outgoing Division One champion Bengi and his Tuta Mionki, current Kenya National Rally Championship Division Two leaders Issa Amwari with Job Njiru and Ken Nteere, McRae Kimathi and Evans Mwenda, Dennis Mwenda among others.
The rally will be flagged off at Nkubu (KCB branch), then the drivers will cruise straight into the competitive sections.
The finishing point will be the ASK showground, which has a large space to accommodate a large crowd.
“We have a total of 550 safety marshals along the route on rally day, and half the number during the recce on November 8. The cars shall undergo a pre-event examination at the Nkubu Heritage Hotel Gardens on November 8 from 10am to 4pm.
“On the same day the drivers will be out on the route doing recce to familiarise with conditions and set up,” said Kagendo.
