Raila allies hit back on Ruto over fake gold scam

Opposition Chief Raila Odinga allies have hit back at back at Deputy President William Ruto over the ‘Fake Gold’ scam demanding that he too should record a statement with Police on the Arror and Kimwarer dam.

Led by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman John Mbadi (Suba South), the leaders said that the DP has no moral authority to comment on who should record statement at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) since he has not done so on the Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal.

ODM’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said that if the DCI want a statement, they know where to find the former Premier.

“Raila will not record any statement with Ruto. Ruto should first record a statement on the Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal. If the DCI want any statement, they know where to find him,” said Sifuna.

Mbadi who is also the National Assembly Minority leader why the DP and his allies are incessant with recording a statement yet it was Raila who first to identify that the purported Interior CS Fred Matiang’i recorded voice was not his.

Mbadi and ardent supporter of Raila came to his defense questioning what moral authority the DP has yet he has been saying that both DCI and the Office of Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) are serving political interests.

“The DP has no moral authority to call any one to go and record a statement at the DCI. He has been fighting DCI and DPP saying they are political. How then can he now direct anybody to institutions he has no faith in?” questioned Mbadi.

“What we are being treated to is political entertainment. Ruto cannot turn out to be the investigator. He has been supporting those suspected of graft and has no capacity to call out anybody.”

Mbadi questioned when Ruto and his team got to know that there were suspects who wanted to con United Arab Emirates (UAE) Vice president and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum of gold.

“They should stop diverting attention on the issue of gold. When did they know about it? Raila is on record saying he was the one who recognized the voice of purported Matiang’i was not his,” added Mbadi.

On Saturday at a function in Narok East constituency, Ruto's allies asked the ODM leader to record statements with detectives over the ongoing fake gold scandal. 

 “We call on the investigating agencies to do their work over the fake gold. If Odinga does not record a statement, then we would know that the DCI is engaging in a cover-up,” said Narok Woman Representative Soipan Tuya.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris waded into the matter saying that only the DCI has the mandate to call persons of interest to aid in the investigations and record statements.

“We should not politicize the work of the DCI and neither should we direct his actions in any investigations. Raila has spoken and if the DCI wants him to record any statement, it’s his call and no one else,” said Passaris.

While attending a burial in Kakamega, Raila told off those linking him to the scandal saying there is no way he could have been involved in the dirty dealings.

“Those who had lost their money in the saga sought my intervention. But when I discovered the level of fraud in the scheme, I blew out the scandal and demanded for proper investigations,” said Raila.
