See you on deadline day — Kenyans react after Uhuru extends Huduma Namba registration

On Friday, President Uhuru Kenyatta extended the registration period for Huduma Namba by a week owing to the long queues seen all over the country.

Through a statement seen by Ureport, the Head of State noted that the last-minute rush is holding back the government and applauded those who had already registered.

Online, Kenyans were quick to weigh in on the matter and while some thanked the President for being considerate, others said they would wait for deadline day to queue since ‘there is still a lot of time’.

‘Mkenya ni last minute’ they say and we have indeed lived up to that expectation.

Huduma Namba registration officially kicked off in March but most centres recorded low turnout.

Earlier this week, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i warned that the May 18 deadline would not be extended, prompting Kenyans to turn out in large numbers to register.

Some unscrupulous agents also took advantage of the rush to ask for bribes to speed up the process and one was captured on video asking for Sh300.

The exercise is set to end on May 25, 2019, at 6pm and the President urged those who are yet to register to take advantage of the extension.

“I have directed the National Inter-ministerial Committee for implementation of this programme to extend the registration period for another 1 week. In this regard therefore, the exercise will effectively close on Saturday, 25th May 2019 at 6.00pm

“I wish to urge those who have not registered to take full advantage of this extension and not to wait until the last day.

The Diaspora mass registration exercise which started on May 6, 2019 will, however, continue until June 20, 2019.
