Migori Governor Okoth Obado surprised his Migori County staff when he arrived at his work station riding a bicycle without his security detail.
Obado claimed he has embarked on a fitness journey and that’s why he put aside his fuel guzzlers and decided to use a bicycle.
His ride to the office comes on the same week the car-free day was set to kick off in Nairobi CBD.
The Government had planned to use the car-free days as part of preparations to start the roll-out of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
On Monday, Cabinet Secretary for Transport James Macharia in the company of heads of Matatu Owners Association addressed the media and applauded the probable gains of the BRT system.

During the press briefing, MOA Chairman Simon Kimutai urged Matatu Sacco members not to panic, saying that they will not be affected by the BRT buses.
The Government suspended its plan to introduce a test-run car-free days in Nairobi due to ‘security mechanisms’ yet to be addressed.
