Suppose NASA wins, is this how Madaraka Day on 1st June 2020 will be celebrated?

The date is 1st June 2020.

The NASA government has been in office for close to three years. President Odinga is in Bomet County to hold the Madaraka Day celebrations, having followed in his predecessor's footsteps of holding national holidays outside Nairobi. With him are Deputy President Kalonzo Musyoka and Deputy Premier Moses Wetangula.

In Nairobi, Premier Musalia Mudavadi is leading celebrations at Nyayo Stadium with his other deputy Isaac Ruto. The speeches are reflective of the transformation the country has undergone since their run-off victory in 2017. Kenya is changing, and while the previous administration focused on infrastructure, NASA is focused on social justice. Similarly to 2002, the Gallup International annual End of Year Survey of 2017 named Kenyans as the most optimistic people on the planet.

Former President Kenyatta is not attending any of the functions, having consistently avoided the public limelight since his defeat. He is currently in Ottawa at a forum for former Heads of State. Former Deputy President Ruto is in attendance at Bomet Stadium as leader of the official opposition. His efforts to build a coalition for the 2022 General Election have so far seen former Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua becoming the deputy party leader of Jubilee. He is also in attendance at Bomet. Meanwhile, the Meru governor Peter Munya who joined NASA as the sixth principal in 2018, is in attendance also at Nairobi.

The referendum of March 2019 has resulted in counties receiving 50% of government revenue, and governors are now significantly more powerful than before. The nation is upbeat because devolution is now a well-resourced development machine. As part of their social justice endeavor, NASA have begun the delicate process of aligning names of places with the heroes of the citizens around them. In Kisumu, Governor Nyongo has renamed the airport to Oginga Odinga International Airport, in recognition of his great contribution to the second liberation.

In similar moves, Moi Airport in Mombasa has been renamed Mekatilili International Airport, while Eldoret International Airport is now Koitalel Arap Samoei International Airport. In Nairobi, Governor Kidero has renamed the KICC to Nairobi International Convention Center. Governors across the country are similarly exercising their new powers in what some have criticised as attempts to edit history. Opinion polls however show a majority of Kenyans support the renaming exercises which are now considered a move to address historical injustices.

The Standard Gauge Railway line is complete all the way to Busia, and most of the funds misappropriated in the Mombasa-Nairobi leg have been recovered. Officials from the transport ministry have been prosecuted, charged and sentenced by the new anti-corruption authority that is part of the Office of the Premier. Convictions have also been handed down for various scandals that occurred in the previous regime, including a sitting governor. While critics have called the new anti-corruption campaign a witch-hunt and a 'revenge' against political opponents of NASA, the international community has been largely supportive, with more western foreign-direct investment flowing in and Kenya leaving the infamy of the list of most corrupt countries.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission has been carrying out an annual audit of the civil service and tender awards to ensure no single ethnic group dominates any employment or business opportunities in government. This has been hailed by NASA leaders as the first step towards the redistribution of wealth in the country. The entire land registry has been digitised and is currently under audit by a French audit firm - Mazars France with support from the Ministry of Lands to establish the chain of ownership of every parcel of land in the country. Parliament has already passed laws to provide the legal framework for the results of the audit to be implemented. President Odinga has been categorical that all illicit land acquisitions will be reversed.
