Mega corruption scams have exposed in several ministries and public institutions, and the Kenya Forest Services happens to be another agency that operates with impunity. It is reportedly disregarding laws and is being run by corrupt officials and cartels.
The agency carries most of its illegal activities in public forests under the cover of darkness.
Koibatek District is a centre of corrupt dealings. Currently, Lembus Forest is experiencing massive logging without following the law.
If the unplanned trend continues, then three years down the line, the forest will be no more. KFS has failed to follow laid down environment laws such as Forest Participatory Management Plan.
It is unfortunate that the anti-corruption agency has failed to defend the only water tower that feeds several rivers despite the concerns raised.
