Arson attacks in schools now seem a perennial trend, especially in June and July. At least in every 10 to 14 days around this period, fire incidents are reported in our schools.

Undoubtedly, there is more to this trend. It points to a rooted ill that needs serious approach to contain. This indictment cannot be addressed through interdiction, victimisation and other knee-jerk reactions like we usually witness when these incidents happen.

It’s clear that we’ve for long been treating symptoms of this devastating ill hence its recurrent nature. It’s now critical that the Teachers Service Commission, the Kenya National Association of Parents, the Ministry of Education and the learners come together in dialogue to discuss how to end this predicament once and for all.
