The job of deputy governors is one of the most thankless in the county government.

Deputy governors have become an “endangered species” and require legislative protection. Imagine reporting to work only to find the walls of your office demolished or your office doors locked! Or waking up to find county askaris at your gate demanding to drive off with your official cars! Or working with juniors who have been instructed to disobey you!

Did the Constitution envisage deputy governors to be seen and not heard; to lie low like an envelope; to rubber-stamp all county decisions without questioning; to harbour no ambition of taking over your boss or acting in his absence?

During the next election, I suggest governors should seriously consider just picking their spouses to be running mates and appoint them deputy governors!
