In the Public Service Commission’s statutory annual report of 2015, 32 per cent of civil servants and teachers are to retire in the next 10 years. A third of Kenya’s workforce is aged 50 years and above. Only one per cent of employees are between 18 and 24 years.
The Government and other employment agencies should desist from employing people through contracts. Jobs should be advertised in the media.
The Government should reduce internal job adverts to encourage competition. Employment should be done as soon as people retire so that the gap is not felt.
Young people in employment should be trained internally and sponsored to do refresher courses.
