Nairobi residents who keep pets such as dogs and cats have been urged to neuter them so as to tame their growing population in the city.
This comes amid ongoing vaccination and sterilization campaigns in Nairobi courtesy of Nairobi County and the Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA). The nine-day exercise targets estates where residents keep dogs and cats, among them, Ruai, Kibera, and Kayole.
KSPCA, in its message ,said that the overpopulation of cats and dogs should be controlled by sterilization, rather than by the killing of healthy animals.
“Dogs and cats should be neutered as soon as possible to avoid health problems, unwanted litter when there are so many animals without homes already,” it said.
The exercise, which runs until March 2, also brings together other stakeholders including TNR trust, Kenya Small and Companion Animal Veterinary Association, and University of Nairobi among others.
