Meru, Kenya: An assistant chief was hacked to death by unknown assailants in Kamiu village in Embu West sub-county on Tuesday evening in front of his 12-year-old son.
Kamiu Assistant Chief Lawrence Mbogo, aged about 50, was accosted by three thugs who struck his home at 9pm.
His son said the gang forced themselves into their house and said they wanted to see his father.
"They immediately starting hacking him using machetes and axes. I tried to rescue him but they hit my hand and fractured it. They stole Sh2,000 from him," said the boy.
He said he called the neighbours, who rushed his father to Embu Level Five Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
