Nyeri, Kenya: Angry residents of Kiambiriria in Kieni East sub-county in Nyeri County on Sunday evening lynched a middle-aged man believed to be a member of a gang behind a spate of shop break-ins in Ichuga.
The residents pounced on the suspect from his hideout, roughed him up, before setting him on fire at Kiambiriria.
An eye-witness who sought anonymity said the deceased was in a gang that on Saturday night robbed a barmaid of Sh3,500 and threatened to hack her.
"The suspect was tracked by youths to his hideout on Sunday evening and arrested, before he was allegedly subjected to a grilling session, where he reportedly named his gang members," he said.
Kieni East OCPD Ancent Kaloki urged members of the public to hand over suspects to the police instead of taking the law into their hands.
