Another bus carjacked in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya: Another bus was on Saturday night carjacked and several passengers robbed of their valuables and cash along Ngong Road, Nairobi.

The bus was headed for Dagoretti when some of the passengers turned out to be criminals and commandeered it towards Kibera slums, police said.

Kilimani police boss Peter Katam said the passengers were robbed and abandoned along Joseph Kangethe Road by the gang of six, which escaped on foot. No arrests had been made by yesterday. The incident came only days after another bus was carjacked along Thika Road, two passengers, one of them a driver, killed and 20 others wounded.

Police said yesterday that no arrests had been made following the Thursday incident, which lasted several hours.

The bus was heading to Githurai from the CBD in Nairobi when it was commandeered by six of passengers, police and the victims said.

They first killed one passenger by throwing him out of the vehicle.

 Police say the driver of the bus, Mr Mbugua Njuguna, 52, was stabbed to death.

The passengers and conductor of the bus belonging to Paradiso Transport Company said they picked 53 passengers along Ronald Ngala Street and on reaching Roasters along Thika Road, stopped to drop a passenger.

 “One of the passengers took control of the bus and drove towards Thika town, leaving the conductor behind and passengers say the hijackers were armed with two pistols, swords, and metal bars,” said head of CID in Nairobi Nicholas Kamwende.

 Along the way, the hijackers threw 20 passengers out of the vehicle to stop police from pursuing them.
