Former Idols contestant Ammara Brown was so heartbroken after she and her boyfriend broke up she penned a song about it.
Tearfully, Ammara confesses the heartbreak she underwent in a song destined to be a continental chartbuster.
Just a year after a sterling performance during the East and Southern Africa Idols show, the charming songstress has already curved her niche. She has been shortlisted among an array of seasoned musicians who will sing during next year’s World Cup in South Africa.
And her success is just one of the great testimonies the 10 finalists had for their diehard fans at their reunion concert in Nairobi last weekend.
After their memorable premier reality TV music show last year, the finalists were back in Nairobi to give back to their fans.
It wasn’t all about singing. The stars, led by Eric Moyo— the Idols winner from Zimbabwe — were in Kenya for charity.
The party dubbed Ziki Idols Blast was also a platform for the Idols finalists to launch their debut albums and singles.
But the Friday concert failed to live to its expectations as only a handful attended the gig held at the Carnivore Grounds.
Idols in concert |
At the time, the Idols who included Erick Moyo, Trinah Chisanga, Adiona Maboreke, Ammara Brown, Mkhululi Bhebhe, Cynthia Kuto, Samantha Tirivacho, Faycal Birinkuzil and Christine Apondi were dressing up for the show, at the backstage. Singing Moulin Rouge’s Lady Marmalade hit the mellow-voiced Adiona sauntered on stage to a thunderous applause. Her performance was riveting just as was Faycal’s who followed with Lionel Richie’s Hello ballad.
"This songs will make some of your boyfriends hate me…" Mkhululi joked as he strut to the stage belting up with Rob Stewart’s Have I told You Lately, blowing kisses to the overwhelmed girls who continuously screamed his name.
And the romantic mood was fueled when the lights were dimmed to usher Eric Moyo. Singing Michael Bolton’s, When A Man Loves a Woman, the Idols winner charmed the crowd, blowing away girls with his trademark ‘rugged’ look.
However, the romantic mood took a drastic turn when energetic Trinah romped to the podium with a rejuvenating sexy dance singing Natasha Bedingfield’s These Words. Her energy seemed irresistible. shecrowd got the crowd dancing along. And even as she got to her second song, Dance With Somebody (Whitney Houston), the fans were showing her ‘mad’ love.
"I love Nairobi and hope to come back soon," she signed off as a group of male fans shouted "We love you Trinah"
The fans were taken by surprise when home girl Cynthia opted to break the sequence. Unlike most of the other Idols, she decided to sing her composition Stay, a love song . Her other composition, Heaven was enough to justify why she was Kenya’s Idols finest.
"I have been working on my debut album since last year. I am also doing some charity projects. And above all I want to thank you for supporting me to date," she said.
Christine too impressed the crowd singing Aerosmith’s Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing just as Samantha who sang Lauryn Hill’s Turn Your Lights Down Low.
Big Ted and Hazel’s chemistry wooed the mature crowd which comprised mostlty of CEO’s of leading companies and key players in the music industry.
