A few hospitals, dispensaries and factories that share supply lines with residential areas will be affected by the power rationing schedule which although officially scheduled to commence on Thursday, is already in effect.

Electricity distributor Kenya Power and Lighting Company has released the first schedule for the Nairobi region which will see electricity disrupted in each area for two days a week until October.

KPLC has published a schedule for Nairobi which will ensure no one area plunges into a blackout for more than two days in a week. Beginning Thursday, your area could either miss electricity on Monday and Thursday, Tuesday and Friday or Wednesday and Saturday.

The communications office at KPLC has confirmed that although all major hospitals and industries will not be affected by the power rationing, smaller hospitals, dispensaries and factories will be switched off alongside their neighbouring residential areas. The rationing will be effective from 6am to 7pm.

According to the KPLC and Kengen, the power rationing will be effected to save water in the dams during the day for full electricity supply at night, and to stretch the water till the short rains come. The full schedule for the whole country will be out on Thursday, though Coast Province North Eastern and Eastern Province will not be affected, as they are not in the national power grid.
