Kenya beat Uganda by 88 runs yesterday to register a second victory in the ongoing ICC Continent Cup T20 Africa tournament at the Nairobi Gymkhana.

Kenya won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 185 runs for the loss of three wickets.
Uganda managed a paltry 97 runs in their 14.1 overs.

Veteran player Collins Obuya led Kenya by example to score 96 runs off 60 balls which propelled him to the man of the match award.

"We started on good footing, I had a great partnership with Rushab Patel in the first six overs which laid the foundation for our win with a huge margin," Obuya told Standard Sports.

"I think Kenya is improving by the day, the matches are helping us to gain a foothold ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers in Namibia in November."

The Obuya Academy player said Uganda had good fielding in their inning but they just failed to capitalise on their bowling and batting.

He praised his team mates for the unity that saw them contain the Pearl of Africa Nation, which ultimately disoriented the rivals.

When asked what keeps him going in the national team he has served for over two decades, Obuya stated: "It is my passion for the sport. Definitely I have no plans to retire any time soon."

Obuya made his debut for Kenya in the senior team in 2002 and took part in the 2003 World Cup in South Africa where he was part of the force that steered the Kenyan ship to the semi-finals.

While hailing Obuya for his impressive performance in the game, Kenya team captain Rakep Patel said the match proved that Kenya is slowly but surely getting its mojo back.

"We are trying to be solid in the tournament, the games remaining are still many so how we tackle them will matter," Rakep said.

Rakep has also heaped praises on the Kenya U19 player Vishil Patel who has replaced the injured Tanzeel Sheikh in the squad.

"As the U19 captain, this is the best opportunity for Vishil to learn from the big boys like Rushab and Shem Ngoche who are also leg spinners like him.

"His inclusion in the team will benefit the senior and the U19 teams and Kenya as a whole," Rakep added.

Uganda captain Brian Masaba rued their missed chances, but admitted that Kenya played well in the match.

"As a team we are experimenting a couple of things ahead of the November World Cup Qualifiers. We are all aware that some things will work out while some will not go our way. We will stick with the process and keep learning even if some things fail to materialise," Masaba stated.
