Kenya has embarked on a strategy to enter at least two new federations in every edition of the Olympics starting with the Paris 2024 Games.
Qualifying beach games to the Olympics in the future is one of the grand plans that Kenya has started.
For this dream to happen, the country will utilise its vast local resources; including the Indian Ocean, Lake Victoria, Athi and Sagana rivers to develop and improve its own version of the beach games.
"We have started to develop the sports, from the youth level and we want to take this all the way to the elite," National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) Secretary General Francis Mutuku told Standard Sports.
"We are doing this in order to come up with an effective Team Kenya that will bolster our medal haul, both at the Olympics and in international beach games competitions."
Mutuku underlined that the Games, once improved, will support the country's blue economy as they will market Kenya as a top tourist destination in the world.
"The Games will help us develop our own culture and identity, they will improve our GDP," he stated.
Kenya is already looking forward to qualifying more teams to the forthcoming World Beach Games slated for Bali, Indonesia on August 5-12.
Already qualified for the global contests is Kenya's 3x3 basketball team that is also aiming to make it to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
NOC-K stated that the competition in Bali will help improve, develop and support Kenya's beach games strategy.
"We are currently helping other federations to book tickets to the World Beach Games, we hope that more will join the basketball lot.
"Taking part in the Games will give Kenya the direction on how to market itself, it will give Kenya an edge over other African nations in terms of sports tourism," Mutuku said.
Mutuku reiterated that gender issues will be observed in the teams' selections for the World Beach Games to ensure there is fairness and inclusivity in accordance with the federation's rules and regulations, aligned with their respective international bodies.
Mutuku hinted that Kenya has a huge vision to host international beach games in the near future.
