Sports CS Ababu Namwamba says he was shocked to learn that Kenya Rugby 7s players were requesting for funds on Twitter on Sunday, November 27, ahead of Cape Town and Dubai 7s.

The rugby players were raising funds to settle pending bills as a result of delayed salaries.

Speaking during an interview on NTV, Ababu said he has since met with the Kenya Rugby Union who he blamed for the players woes.

"I was in total shock; I couldn't believe that our players were doing MChanga on social media," said Ababu.

"On this, Kenya Rugby Union dropped the ball because of poor planning," he added.

The Sports Cabinet Secretary now promises that the rugby players will directly receive their allowances from tomorrow [Tuesday, November 29].

On his part, Kenya Rugby Union chairman Oduor Gangla, has apologized to the players for the delayed salaries.

"I want to sincerely, from the bottom of her heart, offer my unreserved apology as the chairman of the rugby union. We've let the players down, we're sincerely sorry," Gangla said.
