Manchester United signed Leicester City’s Harry Maguire for Sh10 billion making him the world's most expensive centre-back in the world.

Maguire became the most expensive defender, surpassing the 75 million pounds (Sh9.3 billion) Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk last year.

Maguire is United's third signing of the summer following the acquisitions of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bisska from Swansea and Crystal Palace respectively.

Social media was thrown into a frenzy as fans from Kenya and the world at large made their opinions known after the Red Devil's latest blockbuster signing.

Reactions:

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk is the measuring stick for every other centre back in football at the moment and is in the running for the Ballon d'Or, the most prestigious individual award in the world.

His time at Liverpool has made the record Sh9.3 billion they spent for him look like a bargain.

According to stats from WhoScored and the Sun, Maguire's stats are pretty similar to Van Dijk, actually beating the Dutchman on occasion.

Maguire had 195 recoveries to Van Dijk's 193 last season, had a better success at aerial duels of 78.1% to 74.9% and made 1.2 interceptions a game to the Liverpool defender's 1.1.

Both men scored three goals each and made on average one tackle a game in the league.

Van Dijk does still lead on duel success, 76.3% to 72.7%, pass accuracy, 89.7% to 85.6%, caused 0.6 offsides more per game and had 0.3 more clearances per game.

Will Maguire live up to his price tag? Only time will tell.

The Red Devils have omitted Romelu Lukaku from the travelling squad for their final pre-season friendly with AC Milan on Saturday as the Belgian waits on a possible move to Italy.

Chile’s Alexis Sanchez is also conspicuous by his absence after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested he would be available to figure against Milan in Cardiff.

Man United are gearing up for one of their most important seasons since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013.

Solskjaer is at the wheel from the start of the campaign following a dismal end to 2018/19.

United play Chelsea on August 11, 2019, at Old Trafford to begin the 2019/20 season.
