Chiloba bans Pastor Ng'ang'a's TV Station over inappropriate content

The Communications Authority of Kenya has ordered the immediate ban of Pastor Ng'ang'a's SASA TV station for airing inappropriate content.

Through a statement signed by the Director General, Ezra Chiloba, the Neno Evangelism founder's station would cease airing live programming for six months.

"The Communications Authority of Kenya has directed M/S Neno Evangelism Centre, a broadcaster operating as SASA TV, to stop airing live programming with immediate effect," read part of the statement.

The statement further states that the TV station violated the provisions of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998, Broadcasting Regulations, 2009, the Programming Code, and Broadcasting License Conditions.

According to Chiloba, the suspension came after investigations "considered inappropriate content aired by SASA TV during the watershed period" on October 3, 2021. 

The CA General Manager further directed that SASA TV to ensure all staff are qualified and duly accredited by the Media Council of Kenya.

In addition, all staff members are required to undergo mandatory training on "appropriate operations of the Profanity Delay Mechanism system, management of live broadcasts, broadcasting legal framework, consumer protection, and complaints handling."

SASA TV risks revocation of its license failure to adhere to the directives by CA.

However, this is not the first time Pastor Nga'ng'a's TV station has found itself on the wrong foot with the authorities.

Just less than two months ago, the Media Council of Kenya had vowed to take action against SASA TV for uttering offensive content while on air.

 "The Council notes that the media house in question breached clauses 5 (b) (c) on Accountability and 10 (1) on Obscenity, Taste and Tone in Reporting by allowing a presenter, Apostle James Maina Ng'ang'a in a live broadcast from 'Jerusalem City Kenya' at 1024 hours where he uttered offensive and unprintable words on air," read the statement by MSK.
