The family of Meshack Yebei Sunday engaged the Laibon clan, who conducted a traditional ritual to help unravel the mysterious disappearance of their kin.

The elders from the Kapsamoei, Kapturgat and Kapsogon families of Koitalel arap Samoei converged in Yebei’s homestead and performed a special prayer in order to resolve the disappearance of the International Criminal Court (ICC) witness.

Yebei’s family comes from the lineage of Samoei, the supreme chief of the Nandi who led a resistance against British colonial rule before being killed in 1905.

Calvin Kibet Chemiron, cousin to Yebei said they opted for ‘African wisdom’ to attempt to locate their kin, who disappeared on December 28 at Turbo centre after taking his ailing son to a nearby health centre.

Divine intervention

“Where science has failed, we hope special prayers conducted by the eight elders, who also happen to be our relatives may succeed. They have never gone wrong. We resolved to try this method after investigations conducted by the Serious Crimes Unit - elite, international police investigators failed to yield results,” he said.

Mr Chemiron noted that the special prayer will not only help locate their kin but also find his alleged killers. He said results will be known by June this year.

Earlier, Yebei’s father Lazarus Kisorio narrated how the turn of events had affected his family.
