Kanu nets 30,000 new members in Kakamega

Kanu has registered 30,000 new members in Kakamega County in the past four months.

The party's county chairman Suleiman Sumba, on Thursday, said they are targeting 50,000 new members in the county by the end of this month as they seek to bolster the profile of the party in the Western region.

"We are activating our presence at the grassroots to ensure our party leader Gideon Moi stands a chance to the presidential candidate for One Kenya Alliance (OKA). Our 1,200 coordinators have been given a warm reception and they are having an easy time filling the membership registration books," said Sumba.

He spoke when local party officials met over 200 individuals seeking Kanu's ticket to vie for Ward seats on Kanu's ticket in next year's polls.

Sumba said they are planning a series of meetings as they campaign for Moi, whom they all endorsed as their sole presidential candidate.

Kanu is pushing for good governance and innovation as well as promotion of regional economies as well as devolution of power and resources, under its new slogan 'Kanu Fresh'.

"We are making every effort so that by the time we get to the OKA negotiating table, our candidate Gideon Moi automatically gets the presidential ticket," said Sumba who also announced he will be seeking the governorship of Kakamega in next year's elections, the second time he will be making an attempt at the seat.

Joshua Oluoch, Kanu's director of programmes, said the party is in the process of formulating a nomination policy to ensure clean and uncontested party primaries.

“We will field candidates in all positions across the country and we assure all aspirants who wish to vie in Kanu ticket of free and fair nominations,” he said.

County women league leader Amina Lutta asked youth and women to join the party saying it has their best interest at heart.
