A section of business people from Central Kenya now want political leaders to halt premature debate on the region's support for Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 elections.
The business people said the debate is a distraction that could spoil President Uhuru Kenyatta's prospects.
Led by Wainaina Ngenga from Kandara in Murang'a, the businessmen said the debate was unwarranted since it was causing unnecessary political tension.
Mr Ngenga said the President should rein in political leaders from the region to avoid a backlash from the Rift Valley voting bloc.
"The political leaders are speaking on their own, they are not speaking on behalf of the region since a lot of people are saying they will support the DP come 2022," said Mr Ngenga.
