Uhuru supporters say public has right to analyse, critic outcome of Supreme Court ruling

A group of youths in Kisii supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta say the public has every right to comment, analyze, critic and even appreciate the outcome of the Supreme Court judgement.

The group said the Supreme Court did the right thing by expediting the determination of the presidential petition regardless of the outcome.

Led by Dennis Orioki, the Jubilee presidential campaign youth leader, said that the statement by the President has been quoted out of context, and it's now being used by politicians with ill intentions to create tension through demonstrations and organised protests in Kisii and Nyamira Counties.

"The Chief Justice David Maraga is not only serving people in Kisii but the entire nation. Owing to the sensitivity of the Chief Justice post, the Supreme Court judgement was bound to evoke mixed reactions across the political divide," said Orioki.

Addressing the media in a Kisii Hotel, the youths said that those organising the protests and demonstrations will not only fan tension in the country but also hatred hindering cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

"In recent times, Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i has been under serious attack from NASA leadership and there were no demonstrations or protests organised from Kisii and Nyamira counties leadership in support of the CS," he said.

They explained that the strong stance by the two sides on the disbandment of IEBC and the attacks on the Supreme Court could cause fear in the country.

"We therefore request that the Kisii leadership from both political divides to immediately desist from such onslaughts and preach peace love and harmony," said Isaac Motari, Jubilee party Secretary, Kisii County.

Meanwhile Bomachoge Chache MP Alfa Miruka has called on both Jubilee and NASA presidential candidates to concentrate on seeking for votes and stop the public demands and exchanges.

"Raila is busy calling for the sacking of IEBC officials while President Uhuru is attacking the Supreme Court. This is unhealthy for the country particularly at this time when we have to prepare for a presidential election," said Mr Miruka.
