A burial in Kitutu Chache North that should have been a solemn send-off instead turned into a political boxing match after two MPs came to blows over President William Ruto.

Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi and his Kitutu Chache South counterpart Anthony Kibagendi shocked mourners when a heated verbal exchange escalated into a fistfight at the podium.

Trouble began when Kibagendi tore into the Head of State, accusing him of "hoodwinking Kenyans" with empty promises and mismanaging the education sector.

"We were hoodwinked as a community and as a nation to elect a president who is a liar, a president who has messed up our education...," Kibagendi charged before Nyakundi, an unapologetic Ruto loyalist, stormed in to silence him.

Within moments, the war of words spiralled into an all-out scuffle, leaving mourners stunned as they watched their leaders fight beside a coffin. It took a crowd of attendees to separate the two as the burial turned into a political battlefield.

This public clash adds to a growing list of embarrassing brawls among Kenyan leaders. In April, the country was treated to yet another dramatic confrontation, this time on the grounds of Parliament, when a viral video showed ODM-nominated MP Umulkheir Harun and East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) representative Falhada Iman entangled in a vicious scuffle.

Female colleagues tried to break up the fight while a male MP shamelessly recorded the altercation, cheering them on despite pleas to stop.

Harun later claimed Iman ambushed her "with the sole intent of attacking," describing the incident as an unprovoked assault. In a statement, she expressed deep regret:

"Today, an unfortunate incident occurred on the parliamentary grounds, a situation I deeply regret both as a Member of Parliament and as a mother," Harun wrote, insisting she does not condone misconduct.

She accused Iman of orchestrating the fight due to personal differences, though Iman has remained silent on the matter. Public outrage followed, with Kenyans demanding disciplinary action. The two later issued public apologies for their conduct.
