A city-based DJ who recorded a video of his wife allegedly taking her life has been charged with aiding suicide.

Michael Macharia Njiru, popularly known as DJ Brownskin, has been evading arrest following the horrific death of his wife Sharon Njeri Mwangi.

He was finally arrested on June 1 by detectives at Kasarani Police Station.

Njeri, 32, allegedly ingested poison as her husband recorded the incident on the night of July 29 and July 30 last year.

Brownskin who appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina faced three charges, which he denied.

The first count stated that on July 29, last year at Kariobangi South estate, he encouraged Njeri to kill herself by taking poison.

"On July 29, 2022, at Kariobangi South in Nairobi knowing that Sharon Njeri Mwangi intended to commit suicide, he failed to use all reasonable cause to prevent the suicide," read the second count.

He was charged with a third count of allegedly destroying evidence. The charge stated that on diverse dates, knowing that his mobile phone might be required as evidence in a judicial proceeding, he willfully discarded it with intent to prevent it from being used to assess the evidence.

Onyina ordered that he be remanded for three days pending a probation report to determine his bond terms.

He will be presented in court again on June 15.

In the video, which went viral on April 1, 2023, Njeri is seen consuming a substance while saying she is tired of being in an unfaithful relationship.

Seated on the couch is DJ Brownskin who was recording a video unmoved as his wife imbibed the killer substance.

Moments later, Njeri collapsed prompting the husband to call the house girl to bring her some milk. But it was too late - the woman died while being rushed to hospital.

According to police, as Njeri lay dying, DJ Brownskin was allegedly sharing the video with his girlfriend who resided abroad. The video later became public.
