Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung’u has defended the listing of party membership.
She said each party has a secret cord that they use to key in names of their members and ruled out any mischief.
“We do not key in names. Ours is to verify. We can prove the day, time and the person who forwarded the names to the registrar,” she said.
Ms Ndung’u spoke when she took journalists through verification of the names as parties forwarded them.

Formal complaints
She, however, said the public are free to complain and their names shall be struck from the register three days after the formal complaint.
“Once we get the complaint we notify the parties concerned. That is how transparent the exercise is conducted,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and civil societies in Kilifi County have been challenged to start conducting civic education to voters on the electoral process before the General Election.
Fisheries minister Amason Kingi feared more votes could get spoilt if civic education was not conducted.
“Voting this time will be different from the past. There are new electoral laws which the voters need to know earlier before the General Election,” he said.
