Home player Phyllis Kimbo took an early lead during yesterday's Starehe Girls Centre fundraising golf event at the Windsor Golf and Country Club.
Kimbo, playing off handicap 24, posted 13 stableford points in the first nine and 21 points in the second nine for a total of 34 points, the best score in the morning, to be in contention for the numerous prizes on offer.

By the time we went to press, Vet Lab’s handicap 22 golfer Naveen Sharma had posted the second best score of 32 points (14, 18), but with a large field of 140 players teeing off in the competition, better scores were possible in the afternoon.
The director of Starehe Girls Centre Margaret Wanjohi said the money raised at the event would go towards the construction of four new classrooms, a science laboratory and a dining hall.
"I would like to thank all our sponsors in this initiative. I can’t say we have a specific target from this fundraiser, because building classes, dining hall and science laboratory would cost Sh15 million and would not be able to raise that through a golf fundraiser, but whatever we raise will work some part in our scheme," said Wanjohi. The daylong event was co-sponsored by The Standard Group, Panafric Insurance Company, Fly540, Barclays Bank, Equity Bank, Nick Creations, African Nazarene University, Nakumatt, Jakaranda Hotel, Kamindi, Hotpoint Appliances, Exotica Golf Safaris, KCB, Johnson and Johnson, Sharp Electronics and Nation.
Each player paid an entry fee of Sh2, 500 and vouchers were sold at the venue.
