A man, 68, survived an accident, left his car at the scene before going to his home where he committed suicide.

Muchiri, a former teacher and Education Officer in charge of Kieni West was involved in an accident along the Nyahururu-Nyeri road where he hit a motorcyclist as he drove home.

Kieni West OCPD Mr John Kemboi said the motorist hit the boda boda operator who also survived the accident with serious injuries and was rushed to nearby Mary Immaculate Mission hospital for treatment.

Traffic police were informed of the accident and they rushed to the scene for preliminary investigations.

"The police did not find the victim and, on enquiring on his whereabouts, they were told he could have been taken to hospital by well-wishers who were the first to arrive at the scene. They conducted their investigations and then went back to Mweiga Police Station," said Kemboi.

Police also towed the vehicle, a Toyota Platz and the motorcycle to Mweiga Police Station.

But after arriving at the police station, a report was made of a suicide case in a homestead within Mweiga Township.

"Police rushed to the affected home where they found that the deceased had committed suicide by hanging. The body of the deceased was found dangling from the roof by a close relative who informed neighbours, before police were called," Kemboi noted.

It was later discovered that the deceased was the driver of the vehicle that was involved in the accident earlier in the day.

It was not clear how the deceased sneaked from the scene and went home.

By the time the suicide report was made at the police station, his vehicle had already been towed to the station.

"We were surprised by the turn of events, since the deceased did not even leave behind a suicide note," said Kemboi.

The OCPD said the body was taken to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital mortuary.

On Wednesday evening, a woman from Gakawa area in the neighbouring Kieni East sub-county drowned her two children aged four and 10-months before committing suicide through hanging.

The woman, identified as Joyce Wangui, 45, allegedly drowned the two children; Joseph Ngatia, 4, and Mary Gakii aged 10 months in a water tank inside her house and then hang herself.

The bodies were discovered by the deceased's eldest son identified as Ibrahim Nderitu, 17, who came back home from the nearby Gakawa Secondary School, only to find his kin's lifeless bodies.

Kieni East OCPD Mr Michael Mbaluku said police recovered a handwritten suicide note which indicated she took the direction to terminate her children's and own life due to poverty.

"The note claimed that she faced myriad problems and that she had nobody to turn to," said Mbaluku.

The OCPD added that the suicide note instructed her neighbours to bury her body and that of her children as their last respects to her, and if they are not ready, leave the bodies to decompose in the house.
