Two Brazilian police officials based in Pretoria as observers on the lead up to the 2010 World Cup arrested two men who tried to rob them, police sources said.

"Two guys got caught with their hands in the cookie jar," police spokesperson Vish Naidoo told the media. He said the Brazilians caught two men who were trying to steal from their hotel rooms in Pretoria at 3am on Tuesday. Brazil are the hosts for the 2014 event. Naidoo said the two men appeared to gain access to the hotel from the outside. The latest incident flies in the face of South African media and authorities who have come out guns blazing accusing foreign media of blowing crime incidents out of proportion.

It is good to have friends ‘nne’. The latter expression I have learnt from South Africans. Here, friends of dancing President Jacob "Mr Controversy" Zuma have leapt to his defence by accusing SA Council of Churches of "trying to privatise Jesus Christ and turning Christianity into a cult".

This is after the church body objected to Zuma’s renewed declaration that the ANC would rule until the Second Coming of Jesus. There are always trusted lieutenants ready to die for you. Familiar?

Fifa gave away 70,000 free tickets so local South Africans could attend Confederations Cup matches during the group stage of the eight-team tournament.

The governing body of world football decided to hand out the free tickets after some early matches at the World Cup warm-up tournament were played in half-empty stadiums.
