NAIROBI, KENYA: Talks to improve bilateral trade between Kenya and Seychelles have started, with a focus on tourism and commerce, foreign affairs and treasury.

Tourism and Commerce Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie pointed out how a mix of exceptional features found in the countries would create a unique marketing strategy and travel experience for tourists.

“We have had a fruitful discussion on areas of collaboration. Members of Chambers from both sides will meet to identify areas of common interest that will allow us to work together,” said Kandie.

She added: “Marketing the two destinations together could create an opportunity for rebranding the tourism sector to benefit the African continent in line with the African Union’s vision.”

Seychelles is widely known for its exotic beaches while Kenya is well known for the unforgettable Safari experience and a combination of the two give clients two unique holiday experiences in one package.

Kandie assured that her sector is working on enhancing domestic and African tourism which will help them in opening up new markets.

Seychelles Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Paul Adam, expressing confidence in the future of Kenyan tourism, said the existence of a world class airline, Kenya Airways, connecting the two countries has already set up a good base for enhanced co-operation.

The agreement, soon to be drafted and signed, will explore innovative products that will attract and help African countries explore new markets like China.

Kenya is planning to capitalise on the bilateral trade by exporting some of its raw and manufactured products to Seychelles.

The products will range from flowers, meat, vegetables and manufactured products like textiles and edible oils.

The officials also visited the Foreign Affairs and Treasury ministries to discuss ways to enhance co-operation in the sectors of mutual benefit to both countries.
