Brigid Midwa and Amelia Midwa are twin sisters who excel in taekwondo and tennis.
The two youngsters, 10, boast of several national and international medals, trophies and certificates — either as an individual, or group — they have won in several sports tournaments.
They first started getting involved in sports while in nursery. However, Brigid excelled in taekwondo than tennis. Similarly, Amelia was better in tennis than taekwondo.
But Amelia and Brigid’s wish to participate both in individuals and group competitions pushed them to work hard and perfect the skills in both tennis and taekwondo.

“When we started each one of us was better in a particular sport than the other. But we later realised this might affect our performance as a group in future. We encouraged each other to work harder and overcome the weaknesses,” they say.
The twins are all in Class Five at Kianda School. In tennis, the twin sisters’ promise to one day play along each other like feted American tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams, as they represent this country at international level.
Their dream is to set a unique example in sports by participating and excelling both in taekwondo and tennis. They are grateful to their parents.
“Our parents have largely contributed to the nurturing of our talents by providing us with equipments such as uniforms and tennis kits when we need them,” says Amelia.
Despite promising to excel in sports to international level, Amelia wants to be nurse and Brigid a lawyer in future. Locally, David Rudisha inspires them and internationally, Usain Bolt.
