Imagine being aboard a plane, heading to Japan, one of the most developed countries in the world.

Children from different areas have been participating in the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest, aiming to win big prizes, which include a trip to Japan, home of the Toyota Motor Corporation.

The national competition, organised by Toyota East Africa in partnership with The Standard Group, encourages competitors to imagine and draw the car of the future. The Kenyan children have joined others from all over the world to participate in the exciting art event.

Winners in Kenya will be awarded various prizes, including game park visits and accommodation at some of Kenya’s best tourist areas.

Winners of the three categories will get the chance of a lifetime to tour Japan during the award ceremony of the global competition.

Ten-year-old John Kamau loves to draw cars.

"We have two Toyota cars but they are old and not big enough for our family. I would like us to buy a car that has space for ten of us. I also want a car that is safe to drive and won’t get damaged badly in case of an accident," says Kamau.

Purity Wanjiru, eight, and in Standard Two at Bright Future Community School in Nairobi believes all cars in Kenya are Toyota.

"When I grow up I would like to have a beautiful car that has a speed governor, to prevent over speeding."

The the categories are for the Under 10, 10-12 and 13-15 years old.

Winners will be announced next month and the best drawings will qualify for the world contest.

Toyota President Akio Toyoda will select the first prize winner from each category.
