Kenya picked a point from Zambia after the teams drew 1-1 in the final 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Levitt Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Sunday.

The hosts got an early free kick after Teddy Akumu was judged to have fouled a Zambian opponent.

Then in the third minute Rainford Kalaba's long range effort was easily dealt with by Boniface Oluoch in the Kenyan goal.

In the seventh minute, Kalaba won a corner for Zambia as the hosts continued to pile pressure in search of an opener.

Harambee Stars, however, found their footing in the tenth minute with winger Ayub Timbe forcing his way into the Zambian danger zone but the best Kenya could get from the effort was a fruitless corner kick.

Three minutes after that Kenyan captain Victor Wanyama's effort went wide.

In the 17th minute Aboud Omar and Akumu combined well, but nothing much came out of the move after the former was ruled offside.

Then Wanyama did well to pick out Eric Ouma but the Gor Mahia full back was ruled offside.

Kalaba then had the ball in Kenya's net, but was the goal was disallowed as he had scored from an off-side position. Kalaba was causing a lot of problems for the Kenyan defenders and in the 23rd minute his well taken cross went begging.

Eric Ouma also had some great crosses and his delivery in the 28th minute ended up in a fruitless corner.

Aboud Omar coming back to the team after a long time showed great composure at the back and did well to contain the Zambians.

Come the second half Harambee Stars were the more aggressive side and were rewarded in the 64th minute courtesy of Timbe who beat the Zambian goalkeeper with an impressive flick.

Zambia, however, piled plenty of pressure on the Kenyan defence and were rewarded in the 87th minute when the lively Kalaba beat Oluoch from close range. The home side continued to pile pressure but failed to break down the Kenyan backline.
