Try the following tips to keep your strands in tiptop condition…

Maintain a healthy diet

Beauty begins from the inside out, this means you need to have a balanced diet for you to enjoy smooth and healthy hair. A diet inclusive of essential vitamins and minerals will minimise hair loss.

Eat green leafy vegetables, whole grains, eggs and fruits. Hair is made of protein therefore it is advisable to include protein rich food in your diet. The outer covering of potatoes, cucumbers and green or red pepper are healthy in silica which helps maintain healthy hair.

Keep it clean

Maintain a clean scalp and keep your strands fresh by regular washing and conditioning. The regimen will depend on the type of hair you have. Be it natural, permed or braided regular washing will keep it clean.

Those with oily hair will need to wash their hair more frequently than those with dry strands. Never use extremely hot or cold water to wash your hair, always use a gentle rubbing motion with your fingertips while washing and blot dry with a towel as opposed to rubbing dry.

Proper styling

Comb your hair with a wide tooth comb when detangling and limit the use of heat on your hair as it tends to dry and break hair. If you must use heat, coat your strands with leave in conditioner or a heat protectant to ensure you minimise the damage. If you relax your hair ensure you get conditioning treatments with every retouch as well as regular treatments between touch ups.

Keep in mind that harsh chemicals and extreme heat damage hair. Too tight braids and hair bands will cause your hair to break at the edges.
