Kenyan producer DTX teams up with Buruklyn Boyz, Big Yasa for drill track, 'Swag so Fresh'

Kenyan super producer and songwriter DTX is back with a bang, releasing his latest record 'Swag So Fresh' stylized as SSF. The song features Buruklyn Boyz and Big Yasa, a powerful collaboration that fuses high-energy drill with a feel-good, mainstream appeal. DTX's versatility is evident in his previous works.

He has previously experimented with pop, electronic, hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, afrobeat, trap, drill, dubstep, and EDM. This genre fluidity has seen him work with Kenyan finest acts like Bien, Chimano, Fancy Fingers, King Kaka, Savara, and Boutross.

Combining his expertise, Buruklyn Boyz, and Big Yasa's culture-shaping skills, DTX has created music that not only represents two neighborhoods, Kibera (Number Nane) and Buru Buru (route 58/Tano-Nane) but also the Kenyan urban culture.

"I've been a fan of Buruklyn Boyz since day one. They're the OG drillers, pioneers of the sound in Kenya, so it only made sense to experiment with them on a fresh hip-hop wave. And Big Yasa? That's the voice of the streets, the King of Namba 8. Together, we made a feel-good song that anyone can jam to," he says.

'Swag So Fresh' is a celebration of Kenyan street culture and vibe that embraces the global drill movement. It gives music lovers a fresh Hip Hop anthem that appeals to diverse audiences.

"Rap and drill can be pop too, it's all about the emotions that you feed your listeners. For this project, Big Yasa and Buruklyn Boyz represent a mix of hard bars and mainstream appeal. They are a perfect fit," he says.

The song has been generating admirable attention with hundred thousands of views through a tease campaign by the featured artists on social media.

DTX continues to create timeless music with top-charting Kenyan acts, further exploring his production and songwriting talents. 'Swag so fresh' is his first project in 2025. This is on the heels of his Sauti Sol-featured 'High' that caught the attention of many music lovers alike. He promises to share more music with other talented artists throughout the rest of the year.

DTX, whose real name is Derrick Gaitara, is a Kenyan music producer and songwriter who has been active in the music industry for over 10 years.

One of his most significant achievements was producing the solo debut albums of Sauti Sol members Chimano and Savara, 'Heavy is the Crown' and 'Savage Level,' respectively, which became viral hits in Kenya and earned widespread acclaim for having infectious beats and catchy lyrics.
