Rapper Maandy Kabaya has come forward to refute claims that her music is raunchy.
The "Bubbly Bubbly" hitmaker found herself in the spotlight after a social media user on X called her out, along with other Gen Z artists, accusing them of making unsustainable music that promotes promiscuity and drug use.
"Gen Z artistes, you need to get serious with music. What you're singing these days is not sustainable. Maandy, the short round one, has been singing about how horny she is in the last 6 tracks she released. Wengine ni bangi na miraa. There's a reason we still listen to Jaguar's music to date," posted X user Polo Kimani.
However, Maandy did not take this lightly. She responded to the netizen, stating that while her catalogue is extensive, her fans decide which songs become popular.
"Whenever it's time to discredit someone, you're very loud. Mi ni mtu nikona extensive catalogue, unaandika shallow takes na kudiss dem just because the audience chooses which of my songs to make popular. Wacha kutumia akili kama accessory na kutype ufala. Achana na mimi, weh mbleina," she posted.
The "Mauru" rapper urged people to give young artists time to find their path, adding that critics are often driven by fake hatred intended to gain traction on social media.
"Give young artistes time kufigure out what works. Industry tulipata imekua na ufala mob sana, na me as a female artist naamkanga kupigania vita mingi sana! Staying consistent na on top of your game kila saa ni hard in a society that doesn't value art. Mna criticize watoto for clicks," she stated.
Additionally, Maandy issued a challenge, offering Ksh 20,000 to anyone who can find three "horny" lines in any of her last two releases.
"Anyone who can find me rapping more than 3 'horny' lines on one song kwa my last 2 releases, post it. I'll send you 20k sahi. Msirun narrative ya uongo. Sauti ndio sexy, sio lyrics. Make your easy 20k on a Tuesday morning," she posted.
To conclude, she promised to release a new song on Thursday this week.
