There was drama in Kakamega town after a famous mganga was accused of stage-managing her powers to mint money from clients.
‘Dr. Ndunge Wambua kutoka Kitui’, as she is commonly referred to, claimed to have separated a randy man and woman who got stuck during sex at a lodging in the town.
The two, who reportedly lied to their partners that they would be traveling out of town, walked into the lodging at around midday. But an hour later, the woman was heard screaming, asking for help. Her screams attracted residents who came to see what was going on.
“Ni uchungu sana, kuja mtusaidie, tumekwamana hapa ndani. Naumia sana (it’s very painful, someone help, we are stuck here),” the woman wailed.
According to an eyewitness, who spoke to The Nairobian, a group of bouncers appeared and whisked the couple to Ndunge’s house, where she claimed to have separated them.
“Heavily built men alighted from a vehicle, went straight to the room, wrapped the two in shukas and carried them to the waiting vehicle. They then sped off to Ndunge’s place. But from the look of things, the whole thing looked stage-managed. All the parties must have been paid to act,” said one of the eyewitness.
Nancy Wafula, who is a neighbour to the mganga, said the bouncers were from Uganda and even the man busted, who claimed he was a boda-boda rider from Kitale, was lying.
“I have been watching these guys for a long time. I have overheard their conversations and they speak a lot of Kiganda, which I am familiar with. They are cons,” claimed Wafula.
Wafula said they normally drive into the mganga’s compound with flashy cars and plot how to mint millions from wananchi by stage-managing some incidents.
However, when The Nairobian caught up with Ndunge, she refuted the claims, insisting that her powers are real.
“This man came to me last week seeking help to nab his cheating wife. I requested his name and that of the wife wrote it on a piece of paper and wrapped it in my kamtee mtego. I told him to give me a few days for the magic to work,” said Ndunge, adding that she was paid Sh35,000 for the services.
Ndunge denied claims that they (waganga) hire people to help them execute theatrics, claiming their enemies are out to tarnish their names.
“I use kamtee (magic) to bust cheating spouses. I have been in this business for the last 10 years and I am here to help couples. My magic is real and works. Claims that we are stage managing things are lies. Our work speaks for itself. You cannot make things up,” said Ndunge. However, she was unable to explain how her magic works.
The latest incident comes barely three weeks after a similar one in Majengo, Vihiga County.
Kakamega Central Sub County Police Commander, David Kabena, said they have heard such cases, where unsuspecting members of the public have been conned by the waganga, who claim to have powers to solve their marital problems and nab cheating partners.
“I have warned residents against taking money to waganga to have their problems solved. When they are conned, they fear reporting the incidents to police, hence it is difficult to know how many have been conned and under what circumstances,” he said.
Kabena added that most victims fear being ridiculed.
“We have heard the cases and the complaints, but no one is willing to record a statement,” said Kabena.
