Not new to conytroversy, Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua once again found himself the subject of ridiculke on social media after he launched a home improvement program in Machakos.
Launching the Sh50 million project on Wednesday, the Governor said that he intends to eradicate all grass-thatched houses in the county in four months by offering free roofing iron sheets to the residents.
Speaking during the launch in Muusini village, Mwala constituency, Mutua maintained that grass-thatched houses were a sign of poverty and poor living, and that they cannot be used to harvest water.
“Some of the thatched roofs are homes for snakes and rats. This is a risk to those who sleep in them,” said Mutua.
He also urged Machakos residents to instead use in-expensive building bricks instead of mud.

The second term governor then took to social media to share photos of himself removing grass from the roof of a grass-thatched house and replacing the grace with Maendeleo Chap Chap branded iron sheets.

However, Kenyans on Twitter were not moved by the stunt with a majority accusing the governor of prejudicing owners of the grass houses. Here are some of the trending reactions:
