When Daniel Ndambuki aka Churchill, the mastermind behind the popular Churchill comedy show took to the stage during the live recording at the popular Tea Hotel, the area residents literally forced him to acknowledge one Collins ‘Collo’ Biegon alongside governor Paul Chepkwony and other senior county leaders who were present for the laugh session.
Taken aback by the demand, Churchill had to take a minute to enquire who the fellow was.
“Who is this Collo and why is he so popular?” he wondered.
“MCA! MCA! MCA!” the crowd roared back as 29- year-old Biegon stood up to acknowledge the cheering of his adoring supporters and fans.

And perhaps, the single incident at the Churchill show sealed the deal for Collo who was then eying the Kapkugerwet ward seat as an independent candidate after losing to Martin Cheruiyot in the Jubilee Party primaries. But come the elections and Biegon emerged victorious.
In an interview with the young, tall, light-skinned, handsome bachelor who leaves Kericho damsels drooling, the MCA said the Churchill incident wasn’t planned, but spontaneous action by his supporters given the fact that Tea Hotel is located in his home tuff, Kapkugerwet ward.
“I am a soccer fan and I have had a small stint as a player for the Brooke trading centre based in Kimugu as well as Kericho Zoo football club. I have had a lot of interaction with most of the young people who had attended the show,” said the charismatic Biegon.
Before his election, the closest the second-born in a family of three children from Saoset village had come to power was when he became the PA to the immediate former Kapkugerwet ward representative Samuel Ngetich.
“I was addressing a youth meeting in 2014 when the old man spotted me and handpicked me to be his personal assistant. Though the money I was earning from the job wasn’t much, I was excited that for the one year I worked for Mzee Ngetich, it got me access to the county Assembly, and I learnt the role of ward representatives, and where they are intertwined with those of the county executive. My role as a PA was the perfect platform for me to join politics,” said Biegon.
Among the first people to send Biegon a message of congratulation after the August General Election was his former employer, Ng’etich a semi-illiterate old man who during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit for a fundraiser at Kericho AGC mispronounced MCA as “MRC”.
During the campaign period, Biegon’s a rickety and spluttering Suzuki KUX 888 vehicle branded ‘Toyota V-8’ was one of the campaign vehicles which stood out along the streets of Kericho as the young politician drove it around with his team of volunteers soliciting for votes.
